Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla ‘Black Lace’ AGM

Deciduous shrub. Deeply divided, purplish-black foliage from Spring. Abundant flat umbels of pink flowers in Summer. Purple-black berries in Autumn.

Height & Spread: 4 x 8m in 5-10 years.

Hardiness: H6: -20 to -15ºC.

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained to well-drained soil.

Light: Full-sun to Part-shade.

Native Range: Horticultural Cultivar.

CARE & BENEFIT 

Prune in late Winter / early Spring. Remove diseased, dead, damaged & crossing stems. Remove up to 1/3 of the oldest wood to avoid congestion.

Attractive to Pollenators & beneficial insects. Related to UK native, probable food plant for over 15 UK native invertebrates.
