Potting Shed Podcasts
Welcome to the Crosby Holme Potting Shed podcast Playlist.
There are times when gardening can become a bit mundane. Why not keep this time productive, I often listen to an ear worth of podcasts, (keeping the other ear free!) It keeps me both educated and entertained. By way of signal boosting for them here are my eclectic recommendations of gardening and other podcasts

Gardening
Mainstream and more obscure podcasts with gardening in its many forms as the main subject.
BBC Gardeners Question Time
Available here and from most podcast and streaming services. After years of listening to it, for me GQT is more of a self-test quiz these days, but most episodes contain something I wasn’t aware of. If you’re newer to gardening, you’ll get a lot of milage from this one. It is not as up to speed on climate & ecological matters as I would like but is moving there slowly…depending on who is on the panel. There is, compared to where I am a bit of a southern bias …but it helps to be reminded of what will happen next oop north!
Gardening with the RHS.
Available here and also from most podcast and streaming services. My feeling on this one can vary by episode. At times its almost more BBC than the BBC and a little plummy to boot, on occasion, in pursuit of newer audience inclusion I have known it be overly simplistic and patronising. Aside from that I can’t fault the accuracy of the plant information. They are probably ahead of the BBC on ecological matters, but their sonsors for big shows still leave something to be desired in this area. Both tend to avoid acknowledgement of western horticultures colonial past. Overall, I prefer the broad base of in-depth info here to the BBC.
Ecology
We are all part of ecology, even our gardens. Find out more about how the inhabitants of our world interelate.
Future Ecologies
Available here and also from most podcast and streaming services. A stunning podcast “exploring our eco-social relationships through stories, science, music, and soundscapes”. Recorded and produced by a small independent team on the unceded and asserted territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), as well as the Penelakut, Hwlitsum, and other Hul’qumi’num-speaking peoples
(otherwise known as Vancouver and Galiano Island, British Columbia). BC has a climate similar to Cumbria (damp!) and Iv’e learnt a load about ecology from this podcast. Episodes are only released when ready, but are usually monthly and about 1hr long. The back catalogue is well worth exploring, extra content is available to subscribers.
Fiction
An eclectic mix of fiction from various genres.
Escape-Pod
Available here and from most podcast and streaming services. A multi award winning Sci-fi genre fiction podcast established in 2005 with a back catalogue now over two decades long and approaching 1000 weekly episodes. My absolute go-to for short (½ – 1 hr), original, thought provoking Sci-fi. Travel time and the universe while you weed.
