CHG Notes I received Ranunculus repens ‘Timothy Clark’ (d) in the 2023 Plant Heritage plant exchange from a donor in the Northeast region. Attached to the plant was the note shown in the images.
Joe Sharman or “Mr Snowdrop” as he is sometimes known is a Plantsman and owner of Monksilver Nursery. Though often associated with his collection of Galanthus, Joe also grows a large range of Ranunculus. ‘Timothy Clark” was named by Joe c1994 for its donor when it was found to be different to ‘Flore plena’.

Timothy Clark is the current owner of Netherhall Manor, Soham, Ely, Cambridgeshire. The note I received does not really confirm the originating location, but other sources (Plant Heritage) indicate that Timothy had grown it at Netherhall for some time, knowing it as ‘Flore pleno’. Netherhall Manor itself dates to the 1400’s and has a long and fascinating history which includes links to the Scottish Stuarts and to Oliver Cromwell. Timothy has gardened at the manor since childhood and has been one of the last gardens to grow and ensure the survival of Scottish florists’ ranunculus that have been cultivated since the 1700s.
