Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Centaurea scabiosa – Greater Knapweed

Upright, clumping, herbaceous perennial. Pinnately lobed leaves. Reddish-purple thistle-like flowers with enlarged outer ray florets in late Spring to Summer.

Height & Spread:1 x 0.5m in 2-5 years.

Hardiness: H6: -20 to -15ºC.

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained soil.

Light: Full-sun to Part-shade.

Native Range: Horticultural Cultivar. 

Dead-head to encourage repeat flowering or leave to self sow. Cut down spent flowering stems and damaged leaves as the new emerge in spring.

Highly attractive to many pollinators. Foodplant for around 100 UK invertebrates. Seed attractive to birds.
