Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Melica altissima – ‘Atropurpurea’

Clumping, deciduous perennial grass.Light green leaves. Erect stems with single sided panicles of glossy deep purple spikelets in Summer.

Height & Spread: 1 x 0.5m in 2-5 years

Hardiness: H6: -20 to -15º

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained to well-drained soil.

Light: Full-sun to Part-shade.

Native Range: Siberia

CARE & BENEFIT 

Cut down spent flowering stems and damaged leaves as the new emerge in Spring.

Related to two UK native species. Possible food plant for a small number of UK invertebrates (moths).
