Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Milium effusum – ‘Yaffle’

Semi-evergreen perennial grass. Selection of the UK native Wood Millet. Carries a distinctive yellow line in the centre of the leaves. Golden-yellow flowers are held high above the foliage in Spring.

Height & Spread:0.5 x 0.5m in 2-5 years.

Hardiness: H7: < -20ºC.

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained to well-drained soil.

Light: Part-shade.

Native Range: Cultivar of UK Native.

Tidy after flowering. Cut down spent flowering stems and damaged leaves as the new emerge in spring.

Related to Uk Natives. Food plant for over 20 UK native invertebrates (mainly moths), good hibernating habitat for invertebrates.
