Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Plant Sorting Pot

Rumex acetosa – ‘De Belleville’

Clump forming herbaceous perennial. Pare green ovate leaves. Spikes of red tinted flower in summer. 18th c French Horticultural variety with a lemony sharp taste.

Height & Spread: 1.5 x 0.5m in 2-5 years.

Hardiness: H7: < -20°C.

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained soil.

Light: Part-shade.

Native Range: Horticultural Cultivar.

CARE & BENEFIT 

Remove flowering spikes to prevent self seeding. Harvest young leaves from Spring, older leaves from Summer.

Edible. Young leaves are eaten fresh, older leaves are more tender when cooked. Attractive to a number of UK beetles.
