Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Centaurea macrocephala – Great-headed Centaury

Clump forming herbaceous perennial. Simple to pinnately lobed basal leaves. Upright stems carry large yellow, Knapweed like flowers in Summer.

Height & Spread: 1.5 x 0.5m in 2 – 5 years.

Hardiness: H7: < -20ºC.

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained soil.

Light: Full-sun to Part-shade.

Native Range: Causcaus.

CARE & BENEFIT 

Dead-head to encourage repeat flowering or leave to self sow. Cut down spent flowering stems and damaged leaves as the new emerge in Spring.

Attractive to Pollenators & beneficial insects. Related to UK native, probable plant for over 80 UK native invertebrates.
