Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Plant Sorting Pot

Sium sisarum – Skirret

Upright, herbaceous perennial. Divided leaves with oval leaflets. Flat terminal umbels of white flowers in Summer. Believed to have been brought to the UK by the Romans. A well behaved Umbellifer for a naturalistic border & an edible root crop with a nutty parsnip like taste.

Height & Spread: 1.5 x 0.5m in 1-2 years.

Hardiness: H6: -20 to -15ºC.

Soil: Any, moist but well-drained soil.

Light: Full-sun.

Native Range: Europe to W. Asia.

CARE & BENEFIT 

Harvest the roots from Autumn to spring once the tops have died down. Tidy dead stems and leaves before regrowth starts in Spring.

Architectural. Attractive to Pollenators & beneficial insects. Especially hover flies and beetles. Edible.
