Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Plant Sorting Pot

Hierochloe odorata – Sweet Grass

Lax, spreading, perennial grass. Shiny horizontal leaves. Amazing fragrance. This is the Sweet Grass of the R. W. Kimmerer book. Known as Holy Grass in Europe & Bison Grass in Poland.

Height & Spread: 0.6 x ??? in 2-5 years. (Individual horizontal leaves to 45cm but spreads by rhizomes)

Hardiness: H7: < -20ºC.

Soil: Any, moist to poorly-drained soil.

Light: Full-sun to Part-shade.

Native Range: Canada, N. America, Europe. UK Native.

CARE & BENEFIT 

Cut down spent flowering stems and damaged leaves as the new emerge in Spring. For harvest this is best grown in a pot to control spread. Harvest from late Spring through Summer by cutting 1″ from the base.

Used for strewing, medicinal, culinary, cosmetic, brewing and spiritual purposes by many cultures from Alaska to Poland.
