Our Plants

We grow hard to find and unusual hardy perennials with the needs of wildlife and the planet in mind.

All plants are grown from scratch on site, are peat and pesticide free and use organic methods.

Plant Sorting Pot

Silene dioica – ‘Purple Prince’

Upright, herbaceous perennial. Downy, oval, purple tinged leaves. Purple stems, which get darker in better light bear bright rose-red flowers with notched petals from Mar till Nov, peaking in May. A selected form of the UK native perennial.

Height & Spread: 1 x 0.5m in 2-5 years.

Hardiness:  H6: -20 to -15ºC.

Soil:  Any, moist but well-drained to well-drained soil.

Light:  Part-shade to Full-Sun.

Native Range: Horticultural Cultivar. 

Dead-head to encourage repeat flowering or leave to self sow. Cut down spent flowering stems and damaged leaves as the new emerge in spring.

Attractive to Pollenators & beneficial insects. Food plant for over 60 UK native invertebrates.
